About us

YOMU is building a reading companion for people who love books.

Our flagship product, Magic Bookmark, is a spoiler-free companion that sits alongside whatever you are reading. Lost track of who a character is 300 pages in? Coming back to book four of a series after a year away? Magic Bookmark gives you recaps, character guides, and relationship maps up to exactly where you are, and not a word further. Our tagline says it best: spoil yourself, not the ending.

The principle we build on is that Magic Bookmark works alongside the book, never as a replacement for it. It works with the physical copy on your nightstand, the library paperback, the ebook, the audiobook. We are here to make reading less daunting and more rewarding, so people finish more books and start more series.

YOMU was founded by the team behind Outbrain (now Teads), which grew past $1B in annual revenue and went public on Nasdaq. We are a small, fast-moving group with the resources to build something real and the freedom to build it properly.

About the role

We are building a content pipeline, and this is the person who makes the content.

Magic Bookmark adds new books constantly, and every one of them is a reason to make something: a recommendation, a reaction, an "if you loved X, start here" clip, a beautiful thirty seconds of a new hardcover. You will turn that steady stream of books into a steady stream of video.

That output goes two places:

• Our own channels. Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, where our social media manager will publish it.
• A clip library for creators. A growing bank of footage we make available to influencers and partners to use in their own reels and videos.

You will also be on camera. A meaningful share of what we post will be you: talking about a book we just added, recommending your favorite of the week, reacting to a series everyone is arguing about. We want a real person with real taste in books fronting this, not a faceless brand account.

Where you work

We would love this person in Hoboken. The books live here: we keep the physical library at our office, which is also where we film, and being able to pull anything off the shelf and shoot it the same afternoon is the easiest version of this job. If you are in the Hoboken, Jersey City, or NYC area, the commute is easy and you are welcome in the office as often as you like.

That said, we would rather have the right person remote than the wrong person nearby. If you are elsewhere and the work is strong, tell us. We will figure out getting books to you.

What you'll do

• Plan, film, and edit short-form video built around books in the Magic Bookmark library
• Appear on camera as a recurring face of Magic Bookmark: recommendations, reactions, reading updates
• Build and maintain our clip library: well-shot, well-organized footage that creators can drop into their own videos
• Shoot supporting content: book flat-lays, shelf footage, product moments, behind-the-scenes
• Work closely with our social media manager on what to make and when it goes out
• Keep a consistent visual language across everything, so our content is recognizable in a feed
• Watch what performs and let it shape the next round

What we're looking for

• Hands-on video skills, filming and editing. The bar here is social-native, not broadcast: clean, fast, good-looking vertical video shot on a phone or a simple camera setup, cut in CapCut, Premiere, Final Cut, or whatever you like. If you are not there yet but you learn fast and can show us you are already climbing, tell us.
• Comfortable on camera. You should be able to talk to a lens like it is a friend. Not polished, natural. This is the part of the job that cannot be delegated.
• Strong spoken and written English, with a warm, conversational voice. You will be scripting your own clips and writing your own captions.
• A genuine love of books. Not a formal requirement, but close to one in practice. Your recommendations need to sound like they come from someone who actually read the thing, because they will. Tell us what you have read lately.
• Taste. An eye for what looks good in a feed, and a sense of what makes someone stop scrolling.
• Self-starting and prolific. Volume matters in social. We need someone who can consistently ship good content rather than occasionally ship perfect content.
• A place to shoot. Hoboken is our preference, since that is where the books and the filming setup are. If you are remote, you need somewhere you can film consistently and well.

Nice to have

• An existing body of work: your own account, a channel you have run, a portfolio of clips
• Coursework or a degree in film, media, communications, or marketing
• Basic photography and graphic design
• Sound and lighting fundamentals for small-space shoots
• An existing presence in a book community: a Bookstagram, a BookTok, a Goodreads habit, a Discord you are active in

Why this role is worth it

You will be defining what Magic Bookmark looks and sounds like on video, from the first clip onward, with the creative freedom to actually try things and a founding team close enough to say yes quickly. Your face and your work will be out in front of a reading audience that genuinely wants what we are building. And you will be paid to spend your days around a room full of books.
