Keeper of Books

Librarian and book scanning specialist. The title is ours; the job is a real one.

About us

YOMU is building a reading companion for people who love books.

Our flagship product, Magic Bookmark, is a spoiler-free companion that sits alongside whatever you are reading. Lost track of who a character is 300 pages in? Coming back to book four of a series after a year away? Magic Bookmark gives you recaps, character guides, and relationship maps up to exactly where you are, and not a word further. Our tagline says it best: spoil yourself, not the ending.

The principle we build on is that Magic Bookmark works alongside the book, never as a replacement for it. It works with the physical copy on your nightstand, the library paperback, the ebook, the audiobook. We are here to make reading less daunting and more rewarding, so people finish more books and start more series.

YOMU was founded by the team behind Outbrain (now Teads), which grew past $1B in annual revenue and went public on Nasdaq. We are a small, fast-moving group with the resources to build something real and the freedom to build it properly.

About the role

Every book that Magic Bookmark supports starts as a physical copy on a shelf in our Hoboken office. Someone buys it, catalogs it, and scans it page by page. That someone is who we are hiring.

The role has two halves.

Curator of the library

You will help decide what we buy next and keep the collection in order. Our library grows every week, and the decisions behind it matter: which series to complete, which new releases to prioritize, what readers are actually picking up right now. You will work with us on the acquisition list, place the orders, receive the books, and keep the shelves and the catalog in a state where anyone can find anything.

Scanning the collection

The larger part of the day-to-day. We use a CZUR ET16 overhead book scanner, the kind used in libraries and archives, and each book takes roughly 15 to 20 minutes to scan, page by page. You will be the one doing it, and doing it consistently well: clean captures, no skipped or doubled pages, correct file naming, properly logged.

We will not pretend the scanning is thrilling. It is steady, quiet, hands-on work with books, and it needs someone who takes real satisfaction in doing it precisely. If that sounds like a good way to spend a day, you will like this job. If it sounds like a slog, you will not.

What you'll do

What we're looking for

No scanning experience is required. The equipment is straightforward and we will train you on it. A careful person is up and running in a day or two. What we cannot train is the care itself.

Nice to have

Why this role is worth it

It is a calm, self-contained job with a clear purpose: every book you finish is a book that readers can use the same week. The hours are predictable, the work is hands-on, and you will have genuine ownership of the collection. Your judgment shapes what ends up in it. You will also be among the first employees at a small company where your work is visible to everyone, including the founders.

We are flexible on shape. Full-time is our preference, but a consistent half-time arrangement works too. Tell us what you are looking for.
